There is no account to recover. If this phone is lost or the browser is cleared, this file and its password are the only way back to your PIN.

Keep the file in email, Google Drive or a pen drive. Keep the password in your head.

    People you haven't added. They can't see whether you received or read their messages. Add them to move the chat to your list, or block them.

      Only the person who made the group can change the picture.

      Only the person who made the group can rename it or add people.

          Add people to your chats first. Only people you've added can be put in a group.

          Each message is sealed separately for every member. Relays can't read it or see who is in the group.

          Group voice calls work in groups of up to 6 people (you included). Bigger groups can still chat.

            Changing it changes the first part of your PIN. The last 8 characters never change.

            Anyone with your PIN can see your picture and status.
            Appearance

            Only changes how the app looks on this device.

            Privacy

            Messages from anyone else wait in Message requests, with no notification. They can't tell if you saw them.

            When off, people can only add you with your QR code or link.

            App lock

            Lock Inka with a secret code (4 to 8 numbers), so someone who picks up your phone or laptop can't open your chats. It's separate from your Inka PIN, which is public.

            If you forget it, there's no reset. The only way back in is to erase this device and restore your backup file, so make a backup first.

            It's always asked when Inka starts. While locked, notifications don't show names.

            Linked devices

              Use Inka on up to 5 devices: this one plus 4 linked (laptop, tablet…). Each keeps working even when the others are off. Chats from before linking stay where they were; new messages show on all of them.

              Backup file

              Includes your PIN, contacts, chats, photos, voice notes and files. Make a new one now and then.

              Notifications

              Alerts show who wrote, never what they wrote. Alerts while the app is fully closed need the notification service, planned for a later version.

              On iPhone, allowing notifications also lets Inka show the number of unread chats on its icon. Inka doesn't pop up or make sounds while it is open; you see new messages when you look.

              Connection

              Advanced

              Messages travel through several public relay servers at once, in sealed envelopes they cannot open. Change these only if someone asks you to.

                Reload the app's own files from the site. Your PIN, contacts, chats and settings stay on this phone.

                About Inka

                Inka is open software. It keeps your chats only on this device. Messages are encrypted before they leave and travel through several public relays in sealed envelopes signed by throwaway keys, so relays cannot see who is talking to whom. Delivered envelopes are deleted; undelivered ones expire after 14 days. It does not ask for a phone number, email or name.

                Use it lawfully. Do not send threats, harassment, fraud or illegal material.
